The Grand Bargain
The historic Grand Bargain legislation in June helped bring Detroit out of bankruptcy. The Chamber advocated for passage of the legislation, which protected pensioners and ensured the Detroit Institute of Arts’ collection would remain intact.

Reforming the
Personal Property Tax
The Chamber led the way for the support of Proposal 1 during
the August primary election. The
elimination of the Personal Property Tax is estimated to create an additional
15,000 jobs and generate $450 million in investment for the state. This proposal allowed for the phasing out of
personal property taxes that small businesses pay on office equipment and
manufacturers pay on industrial equipment.
