I started the process of writing this article by doing a simple Google search of “doing what you love – franchise.” The following categories came up on the first page of the search.
- Dog Training
- Bakery
- Personal Training
- Sports Coaching
- Party Planning
The beauty of franchising is that you can do what you love, and someone has figured out the way to turn what you love into a business.
ONE LOVE, DIFFERENT OPTIONS
A) As that prior Google search indicated, dog training is just one of the many franchised business concepts are out there. Many people are looking for help training their four-legged member of the family.
B) Don’t forget about pet supply stores, which are another franchise opportunity. Rawhide bones, leashes, bowls and toys are an important part of our furry friend’s life and a great way to run into many of those furry friend’s in the store itself!
C) Sometimes life is busy and it’s difficult to get little Fido’s walk in. Maybe you were stuck in traffic, got home late, and now Fido just wants to take a nap. Did you know that there are dog-walking franchises? They will come to your house and make sure that Fido gets his daily exercise.
D) Just as you can take a child to day care, you can take a dog to day care! Doggie day cares are out there so that man’s best friend can socialize and have fun with other dogs during the day.
E) In-house pet sitting and pet boarding services are available to take care of your canine companion when you are away from home. Whether short-term or long-term, your dog will be able to still have that human interaction, have a filled bowl of food and water, and have the opportunity to play!
F) From haircuts to baths, dog grooming services are out there to keep your puppy looking and feeling clean and fresh. Whether your dog is meant for the Westminster Dog Show or just the Living Room, the entire family will appreciate your clean canine.
I AM DOING WHAT I LOVE
First, and most importantly, I had to be IN LOVE with the notion of gaining my independence and being my own boss.
Secondly, I had to find the right opportunity in which to channel that need for self-determination. This would be something that could best leverage my transferable skills and comport with my operational preferences. It wasn’t necessary that I be In LOVE with the product or service to be provided, or have vast prior experience in the business. Certainly those elements were missing for me since I had never heard of FranNet or the practice of franchise consulting a few short weeks prior to making my decision to move forward. What I did know is that I enjoyed helping people (although no longer wanted to manage them day-to-day), was fascinated with learning about a lot of different small businesses, and really, really wanted to have a more flexible work schedule and balanced lifestyle after so many years in the corporate environment.
Well, here it is twelve years later and I still love the business and lifestyle it’s given me! The decision was certainly a leap of faith at the time, but it’s proven to be quite successful for me!
