It's Getting Warmer Outside, and So is Michigan's Business Climate

The nonprofit group MiQuest has just released its Michigan Entrepreneurship Score Card.  The news is encouraging.

New businesses are opening, small-business lending is improving, and export-related jobs are growing.

When it comes to entrepreneurial change (which MiQuest measures as the momentum of growth relative to other states), Michigan has skyrocketed from 49th in 2008 to 12th in 2015.

Some key aspects of the report state that Michigan is in the top 10 in:
  • Growth in New Business Owners (2nd)
  • Private Lending to Small Business (2nd)
  • Increase in High-Performance Firms (5th)
  • Export-Related Jobs (6th)
  • Export Intensity Growth (7th)
  • High-Tech Manufacturing Employment (2nd)
  • Physical Science and Engineering Workers (4th)
  • Industry Research and Development (5th)
  • Number of Works with Bachelor’s (or higher) Degrees or Related Certificates in Fields Relevant to Tech-based Economic Development (5th)
  • University Research and Development (8th)
As we get closer to summer, and as the weather improves, it’s easy to think about baseball and even consider an analogy to Michigan’s business climate.  Take a look at the Detroit Tigers.  In 2003, the Tigers only won 43 games, yet went to World Series in 2006 and 2012.  They haven’t won it all yet … but you want to be there when they do!

Michigan is ready for business, and this could be the perfect time for those with entrepreneurial passion to get started. I invite you to learn more about business ownership and franchising by attending my two upcoming FREE events.
